One Man Shy (Peter and the Debutante)

Snooty Ronnie Farnsworth, jealous because Valerie Cartwright prefers Peter to him, tries to belittle the Monkees as being lowlifes unworthy of Valerie’s attention. Despite his spiteful efforts, Ronnie learns that "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble" (Proverbs 3:34); Valerie chooses Peter over Ronnie even when he exposes the Monkees’ attempts to make Peter look richer than he really is. In loving Peter in spite of his shortcomings, Valerie teaches Peter and the other Monkees that true love depends not on external possessions or apparent refinement, but on the character of the heart (I Corinthians 13). God also loves us the way we are. "Man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart" (I Samuel 16:7).
