The Prince and the Paupers

Before taking Ludlow back to the Pad, Micky reminds Davy, "Donít forget to free the serfs." Jesus came to set captives free (Isaiah 61:1-2a, Luke 4:18-21). "He whom the Son sets free is free indeed" (John 8:38). We, in turn, must help others to find freedom, both politically and spiritually. Americans have always been known to at least try to help oppressed peoples around the world, and the Monroe Doctrine, Roosevelt Corollary, and Truman Doctrine put this idea into words. (Of course, it also behooves us to make sure that our own people are not being oppressed by big government.) As Christians, we need to at least try to show people the way to true spiritual freedom by witnessing wherever we may be. "You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8; see also Matthew 28:19-20 and Mark 16:15).
