Monkees on the Line
Back Home Up Next

The owner of the answering service makes a show of wanting to help both the Monkees and the rest of the city by giving them a job, but her real goal is to find someone to watch the store while she goes to Jamaica on vacation. Mike tries to keep Ellen Farnsby from committing suicide when, in reality, she is throwing herself into the part she has in a play. Peter plans to give the Pelicans an unexpected but badly needed job, but his idea backfires when the bookies who used the "gig" to place a bet learn that their plans have been thwarted. This disparity between appearance and reality is also brought up in the Bible. When Samuel searched for a new king under Godís direction, he thought he could pick a leader by his looks. God reminded him, "Man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart" (I Samuel 16:7). Appearances can be deceiving, but when we rely on Godís judgement, weíre less likely to be fooled.
