Monkees in Paris
Back Home Up Next

The premise for this episode is that the Monkees are tired of doing the same thing over and over and decide to take a break. There is nothing wrong with taking some time off to just relax for a while. God Himself rested from His work on the seventh day (Genesis 2:2-3) and commanded His people to do likewise (Exodus 20:8-11). David found rest in spending time with the Lord (Psalm 16:11, 62:1-2). Solomon escaped from the pressures of ruling a kingdom to study nature (I Kings 4:33). Jesus took the disciples with Him to get away from the crowds and get some rest (Mark 6:31-32), and sometimes He went off alone (Matthew 14:22-23, Mark 6:45-46). He even stated that He came so that we "may have life, and have it to the full" (John 10:10).

However, we need to guard against laziness. "Keep away from every brother who is idle," Paul urged the Thessalonians (II Thessalonians 3:6). Proverbs is also full of warnings about the ruin laziness brings on a person. As with most things in life, we need to find a healthy balance. "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the sun" (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
